As much as we try to save every horse in our care, sometimes they unexpectedly pass or are given the last act of kindness to end their suffering. We will meet again and ride the Heavens together.

Miss Granny was surrendered as she was the only senior horse at her previous home and was losing weight. We took her in and began treating her for joint issues and focusing on getting her weight up. She was missing teeth and overdue for hoof trims, teeth floating, vaccinations, and worming. Our vet brought her current on all her meds and started her on a daily joint medication to help alleviate her joint stiffness, as well as the farriers trimmed her up nicely. She was with us for approximately 4 months, she had started showing signs of improvement and was kept in the senior herd, whom she and Pumpkin became inseparable. Like two little old ladies. On the morning of Dec 24, 2021, we found her lying down, and she had passed away. We had high hopes for her as she was on her way to a beautiful body condition and we could see a tremendous change in her walk. Sadly, we think she finally felt comfortable enough to go over the rainbow bridge.
Pumpkin was surrendered in 2020,however she wasn't a neglect case, just a senior horse needing a retirement pasture. Pumpkin had severe arthritis as well as bouts of choke, in which our veterinarians kept her as comfortable as possible with joint medication and she was fed a senior mash to keep her choke at bay. Pumpkin had severe arthritis as well as bouts of choke, in which our veterinarians kept her as comfortable as possible with joint medication and she was fed a senior mash to keep her choke at bay. December of 2021 after the passing of Miss Granny, whom Pumpkin had bonded with (they were known as the old gals) on the farm, her health started to decline, and with the advice of the rescues veterinarians the decision was made to euthanize her. Pumpkin will forever be remembered. RIP Pumpkin.
Gus came to us from Florida in 2020. He was a big beautiful draft cross. Healthy and stout. He just wasn't doing well in the Florida heat and his previous owners wanted him to retire in the Appalachian Mountains. Gus was such a wonderful horse and very well mannered. He just wasn't doing well in the Florida heat and his previous owners wanted him to retire in the Appalachian Mountains. Gus was such a wonderful horse and very well mannered. He passed away June 12, 2022. It appeared either a coyote or a bear may have attacked his underside as he didn't have any other health issues. Unfortunately our property backs up to the National Forest and bears have been sighted in the area. Gus will be greatly missed. RIP Gus.
